With a background in fine art and film\, Jonah is a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His work is influenced by the jazz tradition\, fused with his interest in alternative songwriting\, indie\, post-punk\, folk and electronica.\n\nFor the final instalment of this year’s Vortex ‘Whirlpool’ series\, Jonah debuts a unique group exploring riff-driven grooves and ambient textures\, featuring arrangements by some of his favourite composers and songwriters. Inspiration is drawn from Paul Motian and Bill Frisell to David Bowie and Cameron Winter.

Contemporary jazz combining memorable melodies\, strong grooves and open improvisation.\nOlga Amelchenko is a Paris-based saxophonist and composer.\n\nShe began singing in a choir at the age of 5\, and two years later started studying piano and the dombra.\nBetween 2003 and 2006\, she studied choral conducting at the Conservatory of Abakan before transitioning to the saxophone. In 2006\, she moved to Novosibirsk\, where she studied at the conservatory until 2010.\n\nIn 2012\, Olga moved to Germany and continued her musical education in Cologne for two years. She then moved to Berlin\, studying at the Jazz Institut Berlin from 2014 to 2019\, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.\n\nAfter graduating in 2019\, she moved to Paris\, where she is now based. She is active on the French and international jazz scene as a bandleader\, sidewoman\, and educator.\n\nOlga regularly performs with various ensembles and leads two projects: the Olga Amelchenko Quartet and Helicon.\n\nHer debut album Shaping Motion was released in 2018\, followed by Live at Loft in 2020 and Slaying the Dream in 2023. Her latest album\, Howling Silence\, released on July 11\, 2025\, on Edition Records\, marks a pivotal moment in her evolving artistic journey.\n\n \n\n[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mliSKdyjfQ[/embed]
