Expect an evening of adventurous genre-blurring compositions and high energy playing.\n\nJoe Herbert is a guitarist and composer bringing together the rhythmic language of contemporary jazz with the weight\, atmosphere and darkness of grunge and rock. His music is built on deep grooves and an instinct for spontaneity\, drawing as much from Radiohead\, Jeff Buckley and Nirvana as it does from London’s jazz scene.\n\nRecorded with long-standing collaborators Toby Yapp (bass) and Josh Walker-Martin (drums)\, Joe’s second album explores the guitar trio as both a live band and a studio project. Layered guitars\, subtle textures and carefully shaped dynamics sit alongside improvisation to create a sound that feels expansive without losing the immediacy of three musicians playing together.\n\nThe music moves between tightly constructed compositions and open improvisation. Influences from modern jazz\, rock\, funk and ambient music meet in a distinctive band sound.\n\nAt the heart of the project are musicians who have developed their own musical language over years of playing together. Influenced by a range of styles & a diverse spectrum of artists including Madison Cunningham\, Paul Simon and Adrienne Lenker.\n\n\n‘Adventurous\, beautiful music with great musicianship & improvisation’ – (Jamie Callum\, BBC radio 2)\n\n‘An exceptional\, unforgettable and profoundly beautiful collection of songs‘ – (Jazzwise)\n\nFini will be joined for this very special\, one-off night by Amena & Rosa Witts.\n\nAmena is a talented singer and songwriter from Cairo\, Egypt. Growing up in the vibrant city\, she developed a love for both Arabic and Jazz music. She aims to bring together the best of both worlds creating music that blends her cultural roots with the harmony and rhythms of Jazz. In her newest project\, she’s drawing inspiration from pioneers of early Egyptian/Levantine Folk music like Sayed Darwish and Rahbani Brothers. She's set to infuse their timeless compositions with her own twist\, in addition to channeling their spirit in her own original compositions.\n\nRosa Witts is a London-based vocalist and songwriter whose debut solo project blends British and American folk songwriting with the warmth and improvisatory spirit of contemporary jazz\, rooted in intimate storytelling and rich vocal harmony. Currently working towards her debut EP\, Rosa’s performance at the Vortex offers an early glimpse into her sound\, with influences including Becca Stevens\, Eva Cassidy\, and MARO.
