DESCRIPTION:Looking to join a jazz band\, meet other musicians and play more jazz? This new workshop at the Vortex is a relaxed\, welcoming community for musicians who want to play\, learn and develop together.\n\nWe’ll rehearse jazz standards\, work on improvisation and ensemble playing\, and build towards forming regular groups. The aim is to create a supportive jazz community where musicians can meet each other\, make music and\, over time\, have opportunities to perform together.\n\nThe workshop is open to instrumentalists with some playing experience. You don’t need to be an experienced jazz player — just bring your instrument and a willingness to learn.\n\nLed by jazz bassist\, guitarist and educator Tom McCredie.\n\nFirst workshop: 26th September 2026 - 14:30-15:30pm

DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 sets of music\n \nLine-up:\nGary Crosby - Double bass\nDenys Baptiste - Tenor saxophone\nRod Youngs - Drum kit\nAndrew Mccormack - Piano\n\n \nAbout:\nBassist\, band leader and co-founder of Tomorrow’s Warriors\, Gary Crosby OBE teams up with Mercury Prize nominee and MOBO award winning saxophonist Denys Baptiste to lead an all-star quartet for this celebration of the life and music of the legendary Sonny Rollins.\n\nMarking the both the passing of Rollins earlier this year\, and the 70th anniversary of his iconic Saxophone Colossus album\, Gary and Denys will be joined by Andrew McCormack (piano)\, and Rod Youngs (drums)\, as the explore his incredible musical legacy.\n\nDiscussing the impact that Rollins had on him as a musician\, Crosby explains "Sonny Rollins was more than the Saxophone Colossus; he was a colossus of imagination and invention. For me\, his greatest lesson was that true artistry comes from having the courage to find your own voice."
