About
London-based German violinist and singer Johanna Burnheart carves her own niche with a distinctive blend of modal jazz and electronic soundscapes. Deeply influenced by the Berlin techno and house scene as well as modal jazz, Johanna’s music exists at the point where improvisation meets hypnotic rhythm.
Since forming her band in 2018, Johanna has released two acclaimed albums — Burnheart (Ropeadope, 2020) and Bär (2023) — as well as the Burnheart Remixed EP (2021), featuring reworks by Acid Pauli, Beth Lydi, Nesa Azadikhah, and Pilo Adami, paying homage to her deep connection with electronic music. Her releases have earned praise from Jazzwise, MOJO, The Guardian, Jamie Cullum and Worldwide FM, among others.
For this special performance at the Vortex, Johanna Burnheart will present a dynamic set blending original compositions from her releases with reimagined jazz standards, exploring the meeting point of jazz tradition, electronic influence, and fearless improvisation.
