About
Award-winning saxophonist and composer Ed Jones returns to the quartet format that first established his presence on the UK jazz scene over 30 years ago. Formed in 2011, the quartet initially took inspiration from the music of Wayne Shorter but has since evolved into a dynamic ensemble where original compositions by Jones and bassist Riaan Vosloo take centre stage, enriched by the creative interplay of pianist Ross Stanley and drummer Tim Gilles.
Through extensive touring, the group has forged a distinctive collective sound that blends fiercely driven, intense “fire music” with spacious, atmospheric improvisational soundscapes. This duality shines through both in their strikingly original works and in their imaginative re-interpretations of the American songbook.
For this special performance, the quartet will be joined by the acclaimed pianist and composer Rebecca Nash, following her recent collaboration with Jones on his Southbank Commission Lotus Code.
”A formidable saxophonist. Ed Jones may have hit his highest profile through his work with bands US3 and Incognito, but he’s an improviser to his fingertips, a player of forceful imagination, and one of the Uk’s most distinctive saxophonists.” John Fordham The Guardian.
