About
Gloria Yehilevsky’s G M?R is a London-based trio+. Its identity expands beyond instruments or people or rooms or notations—it is something or perhaps everything between these. Navigating electronics and multi-instrumentalism alike, the ensemble plays unprescribed + composed improvised music which is both experimental + accessible. Every gig involves a mallet percussion instrument, personnel are invited by Gloria, and most compositions, when there are any, are also hers. G M?R frequently morphs by incorporating additional guest performers, hence the plus sign.
Gloria Yehilevsky is a London-based composer and improviser who integrates percussion performance with ongoing multimodal enquiry into a fluid cluster of activity. She is currently a PhD candidate in composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Situated in the UK’s jazz, experimental, and contemporary scenes, recent appearances include Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Sō Laboratories (NYC), and the Southbank Centre in Serious’ EFG London Jazz Festival.
She won the PAS/Armand Zildjian award and Italy PAS Vibraphone competition, performed in the San Diego Symphony, World Percussion Group, and alongside the Bang on a Can All-Stars at MASS MoCA, where Steve Reich described her as ‘an extremely impressive percussionist… with an amazing combination of technical mastery and riveting energy.’
Her compositions are collaborative, transdisciplinary, and transform traditional artistic hierarchies. She is a polyglot, child of Soviet Ukrainian immigrants, and has experienced suffering, bliss, and all the colours in between.
Sam Warner is a London-based Trumpet/Flugelhorn player who has become a mainstream figure on the UK Jazz scene playing for the likes of Ariwo, Valia Calda, Riot Jazz, Dime, Alfa Mist and Nubyian Twist.
Having decided to pursue a career in music after winning the music for youth competition in the jazz category as a teenager, he went on to study at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He now performs regularly at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s as well as touring extensively around the UK and abroad. On the commercial side he has played or recorded for the likes of Hak Baker, Kojey Radical, Tom Misch, Loyle Carner, Bel Cobain, Peter Andre, Plan B and Katy B.
Richard Foote is a trombonist and composer.
As a composer and band leader Richard leads the nine-piece brass band Young Pilgrims who have performed throughout the UK and Europe with their most recent album ‘We’re Young Pilgrims’ (Stoney Lane Records) receiving international acclaim and reviews from publications such as Downbeat magazine.
Richard is also a member of Riot Jazz Brass Band and enjoys a varied career as a busy freelance musician. He is at home performing and recording in a variety of musical settings and has worked with The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Ivo Neame’s Dodeka, Mark Sanders, Eddie Henderson, Eliza Carthy, Martha Reeves and has most recently has been working in a new quintet led by improv legend, Paul Dunmall.
