About:
Kassa Green-Jakcsi is a talented 17-year-old alto saxophonist from London. Born and raised in Hackney, he began taking saxophone lessons at age 8.
Inspired by the likes of Kenny Garrett, Immanuel Wilkins, and Herbie Hancock, Kassa’s growing reputation as an innovative composer with a powerful approach to improvisation has already had many in the London jazz scene anticipating an exciting musical journey ahead.
He has performed at numerous venues and events including Barbican, 606 Club, Love Supreme Festival, and Brick Lane Jazz Festival, and alongside established UK jazz musicians such as Gary Crosby, Byron Wallen, Rod Youngs and Mark Kavuma to name a few.
He is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and attending the Tomorrow’s Warriors jazz programme.
At the Kassa GJ Quartet’s debut performance at the Vortex Jazz Club, Kassa will be showcasing a set of his original compositions with remarkable depth and energy. He will be accompanied by a formidable band consisting of Diarra Walcott-Ivanhoe on piano, Rio Kai on double bass, and Luke McCarthy on drums.
