About

For this gig the Billy Marrows Band will feature the incredible Emma Rawicz, Ralph Wyld and the usual rhythm section of Huw V Williams and Jay Davis. They will be performing some of Billy’s infectious and inventive compositions from his upcoming album ‘Dancing on Bentwood Chairs’ arranged for this exciting line up, alongside some brand new tunes written specially for this gig.

The music for the Billy Marrows Band draws on a broad spectrum of influences including Weather Report, Django Bates and Wayne Shorter and has been described by an audience member as “fearsome hardcore modern jazz, but with actual tunes, a winning combination”. Compositions are built around a playful approach to form and love of vibrant melody and harmony and the band interpret the music with an exciting spontaneous and creative attitude.

Billy Marrows is a guitarist and award-winning composer based in London. Active as a sideman he has recorded and toured with Tom Barford, Tom Ridout, Ok Aurora and Patchwork Jazz Orchestra. He has won several composition awards including the small ensemble and big band category of the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition has been commissioned by the National Youth Jazz Collective, Fabia Mantwill Orchestra and Lancaster Youth Jazz Commission amongst others. In 2018, Billy was fortunate to study with Vince Mendoza on the Metropole Orkest Arrangers Workshop in Holland.
