Blow the fuse ‘on air’ – The Guest Stars (1985)

Tonight, Blow the Fuse brings us back to 1985! This film was recorded one night at the Kings Head theatre on Upper Street Islington. It features interviews with all members of the Guest Stars including Debbie Dickinson and is a fascinating glimpse into the London jazz scene and the workings of a womens band from over 35 years ago.

The Guest Stars were regarded as one of the most successful and influential jazz ensembles of the 1980’s, developing from a trio playing in the corner of a North London pub to a six piece band that had toured all over the world and released three albums. The first British jazz group to headline at Ronnie’s Frith Street club, one of the very few British groups to play at the Blue Note in New York. They were influenced by Jazz, African and soul music and seamlessly combined vocals and free improvisation into their music.
