ABOUT

Edlund / Stylianides / Chalk

rebecka edlund – voice
christos stylianides – trumpet/electonics
olly chalk – piano

an improvised set featuring three of the most unique emerging voices in London.

Rebecka Edlund is a Swedish singer and composer with a soft spot for the ocean, anecdotes and everything in the colours of rusty orange and earthy green. Rebecka started out in the world of Scandinavian folk music, studying traditional Swedish singing and herding calls. She has since then fallen in love with the combination of jazz and folk music, whale singing, bird whistling and other strange, beautiful sounds. Rebecka is now in her fourth and final year of jazz studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she explores freely improvised story telling, advanced harmony and composing for unconventional lineups.

Glasgow raised, London based multi-instrumentalist Christos Stylianides has been slowly but surely making the rounds on the UK and European scene. Working closely with a host of cross-genre artists such as Jas Kayser, Maria Chiara Argiro, Daisy George and The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra to name a few.

Olly Chalk is a musician based in London. His album ‘Scathed Citizens’ received the Peter Whittingham Development Award and featured the fiercely innovative saxophonist John O’Gallagher who described Olly as ‘a virtuoso pianist with a compelling and unique musical vision’. A fertile composer, his compositions are musical labyrinths, a gathering of curious fragments and vivid, cinematic themes with free improvisation cutting through the heart of it all. Though an in demand sideman, Olly most at home leading his own projects such as Houndsbleat and to smithereens! – two groups that feature some of the most unique emerging voices from within the London improvised music scene.
