We are currently living in unprecedented times, and in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, The Vortex Jazz Club had to close its doors to the public on the 17th March. During this challenging period, the power of music to bring people together is needed more than ever. For us, our inability to present live concerts has meant we have had to adapt to keep bringing you the best jazz and improvised music.
In collaboration with Sands Films, we are pleased to announce our first live-streamed gig featuring Elina Duni, Rob Luft, and Fred Thomas this Sunday 22nd March! Over the next couple of months, we hope to keep giving you a front-row seat to both new and well-loved performances from some of the best jazz musicians the world has to offer.
To make sure we can keep broadcasting performances, we need your help. We realise that there is a lot of uncertainty about the coming months, but if you’re in a position to support us, then please consider making a donation of £3-5 per gig.
Your donations will play a vital role in keeping music alive across the world. As venues shut globally and with your support, our club will be part of a new movement; bringing you inspiring live-streamed concerts, connecting you with the work of amazing musicians, and keeping The Vortex community going strong.
Together we can come together through music – helping reduce social isolation through these difficult times.
All funds raised will be split evenly between the club, musicians and Sands Films – helping to keep the Vortex alive and promote live music. Please donate using the link to our website. If you want to keep up to date with news and upcoming live-streams, then sign up to our newsletter and follow us on social media.
Thank you, and stay safe.
Elina Duni is a Swiss-Albanian singer. Having been signed to ECM Records since 2012, her hallmark combination of traditional Albanian folk songs and jazz has lead to worldwide critical acclaim. For this latest project, she is joined by guitarist & BBC New Generation Artist Rob Luft, acclaimed as one of the rising stars of London’s flourishing contemporary jazz scene. Luft’s playing incorporates echoes of West African high-life, Celtic folk and textural minimalism, and his joyously original sound finds an ideal counterpart in Elina Duni’s vocals. Together with special guest Fred Thomas, who joins them on piano, percussion & banjo, they steer us on a journey through timeless folk songs which still resonate so truly today.
