Cath Longbottom’s film weaves concert and rehearsal footage around an extensive interview with veteran free pianist Howard Riley as he reflects on his career, evolution and ethos. Featuring insights from bassist Barry Guy and drummer Lucas Niggli, it includes gig footage from Riley’s last ever collaboration with Keith Tippett at the Steinway Spirio Two-Piano Festival at London’s PizzaExpress Soho.
The documentary will be accompanied by a concert film of this historic performance, recorded in March 2016.
The recording was recently released as a CD by Howard’s record company with the blessing of Keith’s widow Julie, and will be available to purchase at the screening.
