About

Ackerley, Wallace and Ghezzi will present a concert featuring compositions by each artist in a song cycle woven with spontaneous interludes as an inquiry into causes and broader social issues such as climate change impact. Ackerley and Ghezzi connected across distances through a mutual friend they found instant commonalities having both worked under the mentorship of NYC vocalist, Sara Serpa. Ackerley and Wallace both have a long standing collaboration in their trio, MAW.

Jessica Ackerley is a Canadian guitarist, improviser and composer based in Honolulu and New York City and has been described as “one of the most exciting guitarists to have emerged from the US free music scene in recent years” by Wire Magazine. Ackerley has released 20 albums with features in Wire Magazine, Pitchfork, and BBC Radio and toured extensively throughout North America. Noteworthy venues include Roulette, The Stone, Something Else! Festival, and Coastal Jazz Festival.

Maddalena Ghezzi is a London based singer, composer and improviser. Her voice was described as “ethereal” and her approach as “giving the sensation of something ancient but also otherworldly” by JazzWise Magazine. Ghezzi has released four EPs as part of her series Minerals that feature on BBC Radio, Jazz In Europe and Bonafide Magazine. Maddalena collaborates with Maria Chiara Argirò, Anything Pointless, Ruth Goller and has performed at Moment’s Notice alongside Matana Roberts.

Eli Wallace is a pianist, improviser, and composer who resides in Brooklyn, NY, leading his own projects, and collaborating with other like-minded artists. His work as a pianist displays a proclivity to free improvisation, incorporating elaborate piano preparations that John Lewis (The Guardian) says is “…pushing the boundaries of the prepared piano.” He appeared on dozens of albums and at venues like The Stone, New York, NY, Roulette, Brooklyn, NY, and Experimental Sound Studio, Chicago, IL.
