Mia Marlen Berg (Oslo, Norway) is a special musician, a vocalist with an effortlessly flexible voice and someone willing to explore a rich patchwork of musical genres, characters, emotions, textures and sounds. A fearless improviser, she is known for her work as bandleader of the jazz-punk trio Doffs Poi, as well as the all-female vocal groups IKI (which she co-founded) and Trondheim Voices. 4-5.30pm, Vortex main space – Improvising with the Spoken Word, with Huw Warren and Stuart Silver

“[Elliot Galvin] reminds me of the young Django Bates, and the impression Django made on me in the 1980s – great improv chops, strong character as a player and a composer, evident love of the jazz tradition without wanting to repeat the past, very English sense of humor. He’s the kind of artist you always want to stay tuned in to, because you know he’s going to keep on coming up with surprises.” – John Fordham (The Guardian)

A longtime collaborator with Huw, Stuart Silver is a Bafta nominated, Perrier award winning writer/performer/producer/director working solo and collaboratively across film, theatre and gallery venues, television, radio, public spaces and in creative educational and mentoring contexts. He created the acclaimed monologue with bluegrass ukulele ‘You Look Like Ants’, ‘what we should have said…’, an original, international spoken word and music event and is the co-founder of (nobleandsilver) – the multimedia performance group.
