About

English trumpeter Tom Syson and Austrian trumpeter Dominik Fuss met in Riga (Latvia), where they were both sent to represent their country as part of the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra 2018. Following this, they came to realise that their individual styles of performance and composition presented an opportunity for unique musical collaboration.

Dominik and Tom will be leading two different quintets in concerts in the UK and Austria in September 2022, with the aim of creating new and exciting music, as well as reimagining existing compositions. This will be an individual take on a two-trumpet quintet line up, drawing inspiration from both jazz and classical music.

Vincent Bach artist Tom Syson is a highly regarded trumpeter and composer based in the UK. He has released two albums under his own know at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, ‘Green’ (2017) and ‘Different Coloured Days’ (2019), both to critical acclaim and alongside UK tours.

Tom also has vast experience performing in larger ensembles, having held the lead trumpet chair in the European Radio Jazz Orchestra 2018, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Birmingham Jazz Orchestra, as well performing with the London Jazz Orchestra, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.

He has performed at venues/events such as the BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scotts, the Barbican and Gibraltar International Jazz Festival, as well as performing with musicians such as Lauren Kinsella, Jacqui Dankworth and Charlie Wood.

Syson’s creative flair is apparent on some entrancing originals with their pastorally melodic twists and turns and his quite stimulating three-dimensional soloing. There’s no doubt we’ll be hearing plenty more from Tom Syson in the near future.’ – Salwyn Harris, Jazzwise

Tom Syson’s creativity, as a composer and instrumentalist, leaves one in no doubt as to his bright future in contemporary jazz. He’s surely here to stay.’Adrian Pallant, London Jazz News
Dominik Fuss is a trumpeter, composer & improvisor based in Vienna. Within his work, he is constantly trying to discover new ways of rethinking the creative landscape, including exploring the boundaries between jazz, classical and contemporary music.

Aside from purely technical considerations such as rhythm and harmony, the most important parameter in his work is constant change, while always retaining a distinctive, essential identity.

He is part of the broad & colourful Austrian music scene, where he is developing new ideas including alongside some of the leading figures from various musical fields such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Juan Diego Florez, George Lewis, Vinko Globokar and Anthony Coleman.
