The Vortex is delighted to be hosting a trumpet festival to start 2015. Each night there will be a fantastic soloist accompanied by our own Vortex Trio, led by the flexible and inimitable Barry Green on piano.
One of the most creative and dynamic trumpet players on the British scene, Rory Simmons is quickly gathering a reputation as an innovative performer and composer. He tours internationally with Jamie Cullum as trumpet player/guitarist in his regular band. He has produced albums for Emilia Martensson and is involved in groups such as Eye of a Blue Dog and Embla. His other performing and recording credits include Katie Melua, Brand New Heavies, Bat For Lashes and Will Young amongst many others. He has also worked with many of the leading names in British and European jazz including Gerard Presencer, Barak Schmool, John Etheridge, FIRE Collective and Byron Wallen.
