For over a century, one of the main ways that we have experienced recordings of music have been with physical recordings: wax discs, vinyl, CDs, cassettes….. But how essential are they now in the digital streaming age?
Is it the same as with the relationship of words and books? Was it a fortuitous accident, as we often relate visual and sound, or something now to be discarded?
