The Vortex has started livestreaming from the club last weekend. It’s not the only club doing this – the 606, Ronnie Scott’s in London and all around Europe, such as Porgy & Bess in Vienna, Moods in Zurich and Unterfahrt in Munich.
When we discussed this a few months ago, it was near the early days of lockdown and streaming was varied in technical quality. Things are still uncertain, with many regarding live music live as the only way to listen, now that some music is back.
But where does it sit, as there are still too few gigs with limited audiences? Travelling for musicians is also limited by quarantining. So, where should we be going?
Behind a paywall, or charging with generous donations to free and live streams?
