Does one ‘play’ or ‘perform’ music?
The psychologist Donald Winnicott wrote: “Play more than anything else makes the individual feel that life is worth living.” But does that potentially lower the status of the music by giving it this description. Perhaps the more formal “perform” is better? Because otherwise perhaps it would encourage too much flippancy.
