The week ahead, 6 February 2026

A feature that we notice, and indeed encourage, from so many of the bands that we hear at the Vortex is “authenticity” developed through a productive struggle. In effect a way of self-expression. A good example is Tom Cawley’s solo gig tonight where he investigates synths. Audiences are crucial motivators for the musicians and your attendance and responsiveness are essential. Part of the joy of attending a ‘real’ gig is that there is involvement – it’s not just passive. So do keep coming to realise this, or be reminded.
This is a week focussing on many musicians whom we have been proud to work with over the past two decades here in Dalston. Many are trailblazers for the scene, such as Tony Kofi strolling down 52nd Street (7), Kit Downes and Tom Challenger (12), Tom Cawley (6) and Hannes Riepler (11). But there are a few of the newest generation whom we encourage, including Sacha Harlan (13) and Marta Gornitzka interpreting Sheila Jordan (12) and Fabrice Tarel with Tom Ollendorff (13). And not to forget our Valentine’s Day with the incomparable Heidi Vogel.
