John Williamson Quartet (2nd show)

Line-up:

Alexandra Ridout – trumpet

Alex Hitchcock – tenor saxophone

John J. Williamson – double bass

Jay Davis – drums

About

Bassist John Williamson’s new quartet combines the freedom of the chordless format with a diversity of influences, anchored by emotional honesty and a strong melodic instinct. Each musician brings their own instantly-recognisable personality, and shares a playful yet sincere approach to improvisation and new music.

John’s writing, described as “detailed and hugely compelling” ranges from angular, neo-Tristano treatments of songbook harmony, to soaring ‘big-sky’ Americana influenced by his time in the US with Brad Linde, Deric Dickens, Aaron Quinn and Billy Wolfe. Selected standards and arrangements round out the set.
