Olie Brice Quintet

Olie Brice is one of our most innovative bass players because he knows how to lead a group as well as anchor. So it’s a great pleasure to have him back at the Vortex to launch his latest album on Babel.

Olie is well know to Vortex audiences, having performed here with Tony Malaby, Paul Dunmall, Evan Parker and many others.  He has released recently a albums with Dutch saxophonist Toby Delius and  another (recorded at the Vortex) with the top German prize winning pianist Achim Kaufmann.

Tonight the quintet will feature Olie on double bass, Alex Bonney on trumpet, George Crowley on tenor sax, Mike Fletcher on C-Melody sax and Jeff Williams on drums.

He writes a good description of the new work on his blog here: https://oliebrice.wordpress.com

Reviews of their last album:

“As a debut album, this is as good as anyone could hope for and promises much for the future” – All About Jazz
“The music that the quintet makes is strong, manages to remain innovative and truly accessible, what more can one ask!” – Free Jazz Blog
