What jazz musicians can achieve need not be solely linked to more intense realisation of the music and links with other genres, as perhaps has been the main instance over recent years. But, perhaps as in the 60s, can once again interact with artists, dancers, spoken word and more. As equals and not just having them as ‘add-ons’. This has been achieved more recently by the likes of Christian Marclay, and, at the Vortex, by Petra Haller’s performances with Freedom and Résonances , by Resonances, the poetry events of Penny Rimbaud and Nicki Heinen and by Mopomoso’s move to the digital space.
It can also be used to improve awareness of environmental and other issues.
