About
At the rhythmic epicentre of innovative British jazz is Corrie Dick, a musician and composer specialising in euphoric, sonically-inventive drumming. Lauded for his dynamism, melodic slant and playfully subversive take on genre, he has long been central to trumpeter-composer Laura Jurd’s projects, provides propulsive rhythm in Rob Luft’s Ensemble, and collaborates widely including with Cahalen Morrison and Sam Amidon. His albums Impossible Things and Sun Swells fuse Celtic folk, jazz, rock and African rhythms into fresh cohesion. His newest project, Norman&Corrie, reimagines ancestral Shetlandic melodies with drones, field recordings, earthy electronics and improvisation at festivals across the UK and Europe.
Celebrating 10 years since the release of Impossible Things, Corrie Dick reunites the ensemble who brought to life the cult album that inspired a new wave of folk-influenced jazz and championed numerous rising jazz superstars.
“A bold fusion of Celtic folk music, african percussion subtlety, and muscular postbop” (The Guardian)
“Dick presents music that’s by turns joyful, celebratory, meditative, fragile, child-like, bold, processional, and freewheeling” (The Herald)
“Fluent, supportive on drums, also produced the compositional highlight of the evening, the emotional corner-stone of the set. I can’t wait to hear it again” (London Jazz News)
