The Vortex is a community.
So our regulars such as audience or volunteers are as important to us as musicians.
So, when a regular like Chris sadly dies, it leaves a gap for us.
Chris was a regular at all the small jazz venues around London. So while we saw him regularly at the Vortex, he was frequently at venues such as the weekly in Kentish Town or Cafe Oto as the Vortex. But he was adventurous. So it wasn’t just the bigger names. He came to our Whirlpool gigs for new graduates too.
Always with some sort of jazz T shirt, and always at least a couple of Cowcatcher beers. And with a near encyclopedic knowledge of British jazz today.
