Liran Donin’s 1000 Boats

Acclaimed Israeli bass player, composer and producer Liran Donin is back again at the Vortex after some time away writing and gathering new material for his debut album which will be released in 2017. Featuring all original compositions by Donin, they explore simplified song structures as they strip the music bare and delve deep into the fragile relationship between structure and improvisation, in the process letting loose some of London’s most exciting improvisers .

Band leader and composer Donin is accompanied by an exciting and fiery band comprised of another Led Bib alumni Chris Williams (Let Spin) on alto sax, Josh Arcoleo (Native Dancer) on tenor sax, Maria Chiara Argiro (These New Puritans) piano and Ben Brown (Waaju) on drums . Donin brings the bass to the forefront and directs the music from there, with his distinctive powerhouse grooving,  but also there is melodic and contemporary indie folk like music to be found here, casting these five musicians in an intriguing new light. Together they draw on influences from across Sub Saharan Africa, the Middle East and travel back all the way to raw Americana. This London debut of the new band at the Vortex promises to be an event not to be missed !
