About

High energy free improvisation from a quartet made up of four leading names from the UK and European jazz and improvised music scene.

Camila Nebbia

Camila Nebbia from Buenos Aires, based in Berlin, is a saxophone player, composer, improviser, visual artist and curator. Described by Jazz PT magazine as “an essential saxophonist of our time”. The multidisciplinary artist layers her practice through the creation and destruction of archival memory, exploring the concepts of identity, migration and memory through her work.

Her most recent solo album –’una ofrenda a la ausencia’ (an offering to absence) with Relative Pitch Records– was described by the NYC Jazz Record as an ‘innately human and personal album, surprising listeners with a passionate approach to jazz’.

Played and recorded with many artists of the international scene such as Marilyn Crispell, Michael Formanek, Angelica Sanchez, Randy Peterson, Tom Rainey, Patrick Shiroishi, Vinnie Sperrazza, Katt Hernandez, Kenneth Jimenez, Lesley Mok, Susana Santos Silva, Elsa Bergman, l’ Arfi collective of Lyon, Joanna Mattrey, Vincent Dromowski’s Flow regulator, Kit Downes, Andrew Lisle, John Hughes, among others.

Colin Webster

London based saxophonist Colin Webster is quickly establishing himself on the European avant-garde scene. Collaborating with some of the key figures in improvised and experimental music, Webster is known for working from extreme sonic palettes – from minimal to maximal, constantly pushing boundaries.

“The application of circular breathing techniques are essential to this ritual-ready, sustain-heavy sound, it seems. Fans of an ensemble like Phurpa might get as much out of it as jazz cadets into, say, Peter Brötzmann, and if you happen to be the sort of wildcat who likes both, then Vs Amp is likely your kind of journey into sound.” – Noel Gardner, The Quietus

Andrew Lisle

Born and raised in Northumberland – now based in London. His quick and highly textural playing filled with rhythmic complexity makes him a highly in-demand member of the fertile jazz & improvised music community. In turns both propulsive and abstract, Lisle has works with many leading voices on the UK and European improvised music scene, including Kit Downes, John Edwards, Alex Ward, Charlotte Keeffe, Ab Baars, Rodrigo Amado and John Dikeman, Colin Webster, Dirk Serries.

Caius Williams

Caius Williams is a musician working mostly within the fields of experimental and improvised music. Working frequently as both a collaborator and a solo artist, Caius has a duo project ‘Crosspiece’ with Theodora Laird (alongside playing guitars for Theodora’s project ‘feeo’), a longstanding duo project with Tara Cunningham, and was recently involved in the live performances of ‘Lifetones’: a project led by Charles Bullen of ‘This Heat’, and he regularly works with many of London’s notable improvisers. Recent releases include solo double bass record ‘Gwannach’ (OTOROKU), ‘Crosspiece’ with Theodora Laird (Cherche Encore), ‘Stiga’ with Tom Challenger and Benedict Taylor (GRAIN), and ‘Worn’, in trio with Will Glaser and Tara Cunningham (self-release).
