Anita Wardell is an experienced jazz vocalist, know for her improvisation and scat styling.   Born in the UK, she soon after moved with her family to Australia where she began to develop her craft.  Influenced by big band albums by Duke Ellington as well as of Ella Fitzgerald, Mark Murphy, Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, Jon Hendricks and Eddie Jefferson.  After attending secondary School she completed her degree in Music at the Adelaide University. In 1990, Anita relocated back to the UK where she studied at the Guildhall school of music and drama.

Wardell’s recording career began in 1995 with the release of the CD Why do you Cry? featuring pianist Liam Noble. She contunued to release albums including Straight Ahead, Until The Stars Fade, You Never Come to Me, Kinda Blue and her most current album The Road.

Anita received the prestigious BBC Jazz Award for Best of Jazz category in 2006.  While Jazzwise Magazine called her “energetic and inventive.”
