Ian Shaw is a Welsh jazz singer as well as record producer and stand up comedian. Shaw’s performance career began in the 1980′s in the alternative cabaret circuit. During this time he also traveled throughout Europe and London playing in piano bars and festivals. In 1990 he toured through Europe and recorded with fellow singer Carol Grimes and often worked as a duo with other artists including Claire Martin, Linda Lewis and a series of other singers. By the mid 90′s he began to be a regular at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and in 1995 Shaw released two albums on the club’s Jazzhouse label. In 1996 he led his very own ‘Very Big Band’ tour through the UK and eventually in the late 90′s began preforming regularly in the USA. During the 2000′s Ian Shaw had some guest spots during TV programs such as Top of the Pops, The Jack Dee Show, Christmas Night with the Stars (BBC) and most recently featured in a guest spot on BBC 2’s The Review Show. He has received “Best Jazz Vocalist” in the 2004 and 2007 BBC Jazz Awards and is nominated this year for “Best UK Vocalist” at the Jazzfm Awards. His latest release, A Ghost In Every Bar, The Lyrics Of Fran Landesman is his 13th studio album has had great reception in both European and American Markets.
One of Britain’s most inventive jazz vocalists, Shaw’s remarkable vocal range and mesmerising style has seen him breathe life into pop tunes and standards, reinventing even the most maudlin showtunes with sparkling wit.
