The Vortex is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing a stage for musical performances that exist outside the mainstream. We host over 350 concerts a year and all of our gigs are managed by a dedicated community of music-mad volunteers. We have been running for nearly 30 years and have established a reputation as one of the leading venues in the world for jazz and experimental music.
The Vortex is a not for profit volunteer-driven organisation committed to jazz in all its forms but with a strong emphasis on contemporary music and free improvisation. We aim to provide a club performance space that is welcoming to musicians and audiences alike. We also seek to engage with the local community through outdoor events in Gillett Square and other initiatives.
The Vortex is part of the partnership which supports activities and events in Gillett Square. Visit www.gillettsquare.org.uk for information on what is happening.
Originally set up to support the “Save the Vortex” campaign, the Vortex Foundation now supports activity in the Vortex Jazz Club, and in Gillett Square. It supported the Live Vortex project with funds from the Arts Council, and supports the Finance Manager post with funds from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
