The Alice Leggett Quartet will be playing a combination of Alice’s original compositions, and arrangements of well-known jazz standards. Alice has drawn influences from a variety of artists such as, Miguel Zenon, Ben Van Gelder, Chris Cheek, Bill Frisell, Charlie Haden, John Coltrane and Thelonius Monk; to name a few. Each member approaches the compositions in their own distinctive way, helping the music venture towards various places, whilst maintaining a strong band sound.
Since graduating in 2017, Alice has already made her mark on London’s jazz landscape in a relatively short space of time, having a chair in Calum Gourlay’s legendary monthly big band residency at The Vortex and appearing as a featured soloist in Mark Lockheart’s 2016 London Jazz Festival commission ‘Brave World’. Rick Simpson has performed with musicians such as Christian Scott, Eric Harland, Joe Sanders, Michael Janisch, Ernesto Simpson, Martin Speake, Earl Burness Travis, Stan Sulzmann, and Jeff Williams. He plays in the ensembles of Leo Richardson, Jay Phelps, Tim Thornton, Tommy Andrews, Andre Canniere and Kristian Borring. Calum Gourlay has played with the Kit Downes Trio, The Tommy Smith Group, Will Vinson, Jerry Bergonzi, The London Jazz Orchestra, Ian Shaw and Julian Joseph. With a broad range of influences, Will can be seen performing regularly in various contexts throughout the capital and is highly in demand.
