Barry Wallenstein with Mike Hobart + Moss Freed

A chance to hear one of the classic NY beat poets.

He will be collaborating with saxophonist Mike Hobart and his band (Chris Lee trumpet, Danny Keene piano, Greg Gottleib bass and Eric Ford drums)

Barry Wallenstein lives in New York City.  He received his PhD in Literature and Modern Poetry from New York University in 1972.  From 1965 until 2006 he taught literature and writing at the City College of New York where he founded the journal Poetry in Performance.  His poems first appeared in 1964 and since then he has published eight collections.  In the early 1970’s he began collaborating with jazz artists in the performance and recording of his poetry, establishing long term relationships with renowned jazz artists, including saxophonist, Charles Tyler, Cecil McBee (bass), Stanley Cowell (piano), John Hicks (piano), Adam Birnbaum (piano) and for many years, the French horn player, Vincent Chancey. He continues to perform with musicians internationally.
