Nye Banfield

Nye Banfield is an ambitious jazz saxophonist, composer and bandleader based in South East London and recently graduated from Trinity Laban. His biggest influences are Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, Kendrick Lamar and Ambrose Akinmusire and he combines aspects of each of their music in his own writing and improvising to create a distinctive and contemporary sound.

Nye recorded, produced, mixed and self released his debut EP ‘All Change’ in October 2018. It combines traditional jazz teachings with more current grooves and harmonies to create an exciting sound which is “gripping and intense”. The record consists of 5 of Nye’s original compositions featuring Dylan Jones of Ezra Collective on trumpet, Ewan Moore on drums, Michael Shrimpling on double bass and Tom Morley on piano.

As well as releasing music under his own name, Nye has also recorded with up and coming singer Tara Lily, featuring on a song alongside trumpeter Dylan Jones, drummer Femi Koleoso and produced by Jammer of BBK. He has also worked with hiphop group ‘nine8 collective’ appearing on the Bone Chilled Milk EP.

Recent performances of Nye’s include the Jazz Cafe in Camden, Mr Wolfs in Bristol, Kansas Smitty’s, Rye Wax, Folklore and Peggy’s Skylight in Nottingham.
