In 2018, Romanian pianist Sorin Zlat started working on his new album “The Land Of Dreams”, which contains original works. The project enjoyed not only a well-deserved success in Roma-
nia, Europe and the United States, but also gave rise to a new collaboration. With styles ranging from cool jazz, to post-bop, latin, flamenco, funk, avant-garde, the proposed project is a
testament to the universality of music, with the four musicians coming from generations and different schools of thought, but unified by the common language of jazz. Basically this is the
idea of the album, “The Land of Dreams” being a realm of all musicians where music is a universal language. “The Land of Dreams” concert will include personal compositions from the album “Endurance” released by Sorin in 2015 and new creations that will be included on the next album of the pianist.
Sorin Zlat (Romania), pianist, clarinetist and composer, the winner of many national and international awards, is one of the most representative jazz pianists of the new generation of Romanian artists, who in recent years received distinctions such as the Grand Prix Jazz in Jacksonville, Florida (2015), the Grand Prix in the Monaco Jazz Competition (2013), the Grand Prix at the Montreux Jazz Competition (2015), and the Best Jazz Music Award. Invited as the
headliner at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival 2017, Sorin Zlat played on the same stage alongside Chick Corea Trio, Joey Alexander Trio, Gerald Clayton and Gregory Porter. Currently, Sorin
concerts in Europe and North America, enjoying numerous concerts in Switzerland, Spain, Israel, Belgium, Turkey, France, Italy, England and the Netherlands. Recent appearances include
famous clubs such as Birdland and Smalls in New York, Music Village and Jazz Station in Brussels, Vortex, Pizza Express, London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Istanbul’s Nardis Club,
Montreux Jazz Cafe Club, B-Flat Club in Berlin or attending prestigious festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the Izmir Jazz Festival, the Brussels Jazz Festival, the Pera Fest Istanbul, the Getxo International Jazz Festival in Spain, the Monaco Jazz Festival, etc.
Our own experience of Sorin goes back to when he came into the club on a Friday evening, with his mother and sister, and did an impromptu audition. And David Mossman and I (Oliver) were blown away. So we feel that he is part of the Vortex family! We really want you all here to understand and respect this great Romanian pianist.
