Tolerance – an important element of jazz

Jazz has always been a music form which has led in terms of encouraging tolerance and respect. In line with this, we have no willingness to consort with those who incite disrespect for people of all types, be it related to race, ethnicity, disability, religion, sex, LGBTQ+ and more. If we believe this to be happening, then we shall certainly make sure that these people are excluded from the club. Respect for human rights is an essential underpinning of the club. It’s a difficult balancing act at times between freedom of action and incitement. However, we feel that musicians who perform at the Vortex are of many different persuasions politically but they play at the club in the spirit of cohesion and no attempt to disrupt.
