Ferg Ireland – Double bass

Will Barry – Piano

Gareth Fowler – Electric guitar

Luke McCarthy – Drums

Described by Jazzwise as an “inexhaustable creative powerhouse” leading Bassist and Composer Ferg Ireland brings a new specially assembled Quartet to the Vortex for this debut performance. Building on his long standing musical relationship with the ever in demand pianist Will Barry and forging new connections with the masterful guitarist Gareth Fowler, recently returned from years on the scene in New York, and up and coming fiery young drummer Luke McCarthy.

The Quartet will be exploring a mixture of Ferg’s newest compositions alongside choice selections from some of the greatest composers in Jazz, channeling both the intensity of modern NY style small group Jazz and the looseness and risk-taking of the 60s quartets of Davis and Coltrane.

Ferg Ireland is one of Europes most versatile and in demand Bassists.

Having performed and recorded with some of the biggest Artists in the world including Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Jamie Cullum, Gregory Porter, Jungle and Incognito, US Jazz legends such as Jason Marsalis, Johnny O Neal and Leroy Jones, and leading UK Jazz artists Kansas Smittys,Soweto Kinch,Reuben James, Ronnie Scotts Allstars, Georgia Cecile, Nathaniel Facey, Ashley Henry, Empirical, 22A and many more  “…his playing throughout illustrates why he’s so in demand; with a simply awesome if unorthodox technique put in the service of a powerfully individual musical imagination, simultaneously grounding the harmony and sending it into unexpected directions.”- Jazzwise Magazine
