George Crowley + Rhythm Sticks

GEORGE CROWLEY
‘There are times on Paper Universe, George Crowley’s debut album, when the young saxophonist and composer sounds like he’s been sitting by the side of Coleman Hawkins or Lester Young. There are times when he flies out of the speakers like he invented hard bop. Then a few minutes later he’s creating long, flowing melodic lines with a more contemporary edge. It’s impressive stuff from an imaginative young talent.’ All About Jazz

‘Insiders’ stories about Crowley’s growing promise haven’t been exaggerated.’ John Fordham, The Guardian

RHYTHM STICKS
Rhythm Sticks are a cutting edge youth ensemble of 11-17 yr old musicians from Park View in Tottenham, North London. Rhythm Sticks launched their brilliant debut album The Hen’s Tooth, in partnership with Good Move! Music, at the London Jazz Festival 2013. The past year has seen Rhythm Sticks’ music entered into the National Sound Archives at the British Library, perform at the Barbican, Jo3’s Jazz In The Round and at the Vortex Outdoors Festival. Led by the irrepressible, gravel-voiced Andrew Plummer from World Sanguine Report and drummer Tom Greenhalgh, the group collectively devise music that is heavy on groove and eccentric improvisation.
