About

Sam Hogarth combines a deep love of the jazz repertoire with a fresh approach to harmonisation that is evident in his original compositions. His influences include modern greats such as Chick Corea and Norma Winstone and more tradition-rooted players like Bill Charlap and Dick Hyman, but also range back as far as Teddy Wilson and Fats Waller. He lives in Germany and is a regular at the Frankfurt Jazzkeller, also hosting a residency in his adopted home Mainz. He returns to the Vortex in a trio also featuring long-time collaborator Tom Farmer with his re-imaginings of standards and rarities from the Great American Songbook and some original compositions not yet heard in the UK!

Alongisde the trio is the virtuoso violinist Thom Gould, one of the leading classical violinists of his generation and thanks to collaborations with Gwilym Simcock, Tim Garland and others, also a favourite of the UK jazz public.
