Sorin Zlat Trio-“The Land of Dreams”

Sorin Zlat-Piano

Mikele Montolli-Doublebass

Andy Trim-Drums

Sorin is a very accomplished jazz pianist, classical clarinetist, and composer. He is the winner of over 20 national and international awards, including the Grand Prize and Prize of the Public at the 2013 Monaco Jazz Competition, the Grand Prize at the 2011 Europafest Jazz Competition, and a finalist of the 2015 Montreux Jazz Competition, just to quote a few. In 2015, he travelled to the United States where he won the Jacksonville Jazz Piano competition. After being selected from 200 applicants worldwide, as part of a 5 finalists group, Sorin won the competition with an amazing rendition of John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps” and by playing two of his own compositions.

When Sorin first came in to see us at the club three years ago, we were astonished and mesmerised by his technique and energy. So we are always delighted for him to return and give more and more the chance to hear him play.

Sorin Zlat Trio is currently performing at various venues across Europe with a project that promotes his debut album, Endurance, launched in 2015. The album contains original compositions, re-orchestrated standards from some of the jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, and Thelonious Monk, and Romanian folklore rewritten on jazz rhythms. The project has been debuted in Europe and the United States in the fall of 2016 and it was received with great acclaim by the audience and jazz critics. Several venues we already have concerted at are: United States (New York – Birdland, Smalls, Houston, Austin, New Orleans) and Europe: Paris (Goethe Institute), Brussels (Music Village, Jazz Station), Budapest (Music Center), Berlin( B Flat, Schlot), London (Vortex, King’s Place), Romania (Garana Jazz Festival, Johnny Raducanu Jazz Festival, Bucharest Jazz Festival). In 2017 Sorin was invited to play on the same stage and in the same evening with artist like Chick Corea and Joey Alexander at ” Jacksonville Jazz Festival” S.U.A
