Tori Freestone has been creating a stir in the UK and abroad in recent years winning prestigious awards and receiving rave reviews. On Tuesday 26th May, from 8PM BST, we will broadcast the album launch, back in June 2019, of ‘El Mar de Nubes’ (‘The Sea of Clouds’) on ‘Whirlwind Recordings’. Showcasing her unique writing style which takes inspiration from the chordless trios of the moment infused with sounds from her roots in folk the new release also has Latin and Brazilian elements influenced by spending much of her youth and adult life in the Canary Islands where she composed the album. Line-up includes: Tori Freestone (saxophone), Tim Giles (drums) and Dave Manington (bass).
We realise that there is a lot of uncertainty about the coming months, but if you’re in a position to support us, then please consider making a donation of £3-5 per gig: https://bit.ly/2ZnT7yQ
Since closing our doors to the public on the 17th March, we have been getting together a programme of events to keep showcasing the best jazz and improvised music from across the UK and the world. To make sure we can keep broadcasting performances, we need your help.
Your donations will play a vital role in keeping music alive across the world. As venues shut globally and with your support, our club will be part of a new movement; bringing you inspiring live-streamed concerts, connecting you with the work of amazing musicians, and keeping The Vortex community going strong.
Together we can come together through music – helping reduce social isolation through these difficult times.
