Vortex discussion 119 – crossing the generations (contd)

Jazz seems to be a music where there is a great deal of integration across the generations. Why is this awareness and respect? Is this correct? And if so, why?

John Dankworth and his son Alec indeed had a ‘Generation Band’ 30 years ago, as the practice of being a jazz musician had passed from father to son. Is jazz indeed exceptional from this regard? Usually, there is an inherent disrespect for older people being ‘past it’ and younger being too ‘inexperienced’. Or has this changed too?

Led by Oliver Weindling, Vortex director, this discussion online is open to all, young or old, performer or listener!
