Vortex discussion 18: “Communing with The Community”

This week, our open discussion focuses on “community” for whom we are involved in jazz. As a jazz club, at any time, with a live concert, the community any night was fairly obvious – a group of audience and musicians. Of course, we try and broaden the range and type of audience and music.

But now! Things are changing again. With venues and live jazz reappearing, we can’t assume that we revert, because the audience numbers will be reduced. We now have the possible of finding new communities, not just satisfy the audiences who can’t come in the door. For example, at the Outreach festival in Schwaz in Austria last week, there were ‘only’ 180 allowed in to the concerts or some were even in shop windows for safety (as in the featured photo). But 4500 watched online. Do we just appeal to a live audience and have the others just eavesdrop? Or?

This informal dialogue and seminar is open to all.
