Culture Recovery Fund Outcome

The Vortex Jazz Club is both delighted and relieved to have been awarded a grant from the Culture Recovery Fund administered by the Arts Council England on behalf of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

With this fund, and the extraordinarily generous backing of our supporters and members in our crowdfunding appeal, this allows us to continue to remain open until at least April 2021, allowing time to consolidate and build our current live programme and to extend our digital offering.

It has been a difficult period for the arts in the UK, particularly for small venues and artists. With significantly reduced capacity, the financial outlook for small venues, and even more so for self-employed musicians, remains challenging. We are encouraged by people’s understanding of the plight of those in the musical economy.

The Vortex will play its part in ensuring that there is an industry to come back to. #HereForCulture

About the club:

The Vortex is a leading British Jazz venue based in Dalston, East London. It was voted 7th best Jazz venue in the world in a recent Downbeat poll. It is currently open, with reduced capacity, at weekends and will, if possible, extend its opening times in the near future. It is also working on making live streaming of most gigs available to its supporters and members.
