Late Sessions: Finn Peters Curates – Jason Yarde’s The Blue Box Diaries

Reeds player Finn Peters curates three late night sessions at the Vortex – catch them after the evening concerts. The Independent has described Finn’s music as “nothing like you have ever heard before” so expect the same from these shows!

Performing music from his project The Blue Box Diaries, Jason Yarde will be twisting raw sax using a full arsenal of electronic madness.

Jason Yarde started his playing career with the Jazz Warriors at 16, and has performed in a wide variety of bands including work with Louis Moholo, Afro Blok, Mano Ventura and the big bands of Manu Dibango, Hermeto Pascoal, Sam Rivers, McCoy Tyner, Andrew Hill, Hugh Masekela and many others. His own bands include the multi-award-winning J-life and Acoutastic Bombastic, and his prolific talents as composer, arranger and producer have led to projects with dance companies and classical orchestras such as the BBCCO and the LSO.

‘Yarde is at the forefront of his generation in the UK.’  The Arts Desk

‘While he’s now feted primarily as a composer, his sax improvising has quietly blossomed to world class.’  The Guardian

Finn Peters is one of the leading and most exciting flute and sax players in the UK today. A musician born and bred, his explorative nature has lead him to work with such pioneers as Frederick Rzewski, Bill Frisell, DJ Spinna, Sam Rivers and Sa-Ra creative partners, to name a few. This same thirst for discovery has taken him around the world and has led him to set up his own imprint, Mantella Records, releasing 7 albums plus numerous 12″s, EPs and remixes.

“the blazing definition of a seriously heavy player” Straight No Chaser
