This amazing ensemble is led by renowned jazz and world music cellist Shirley Smart. Shirley spent 10 years in Jerusalem playing and studying the music of the region and Melange seamlessly blends this with popular North African rai and chaabi songs, Gnawa music of the South Moroccan desert, exotic Middle Eastern and Turkish melodies, Central Asian folk melodies, the firey Tango of Argentina and the street Choro of Brazil. They make all of these disparate genres their own with some peerless jazz-influenced improvisation and their easy virtuosity across this broad spectrum of music. It’s some show!
