Duduvudu

The acclaimed Duduvudu cd is a celebration of the enduring musical spirit of Dudu Pukwana. Duduvudu, is a project under the direction of renowned London-born, San Francisco-based flautist Chloë Scott.   with direct involvement of those most intimately associated with him, The Bluenotes, and The Brotherhood of Breath: Harry Beckett (his last recording session), Thomas Dyani, Nick Stephens, Annie Whitehead, and guitarist Pierre Dørge (New Jungle Orchestra), Barbara Pukwana, and Hazel Miller of Ogun Records.  Long time UK-based Mark Sanders, Dave Draper and Ntshuks Bonga were also part of the London recording sessions .  These were followed by additional tracks recorded in San Francisco.

Duduvudu is an eclectic mix with no boundaries – joyous, intense, and full of fire, the voodoo, the spell that Dudu’s music cast over all who were touched by it – and now that means you!

Duduvudu  at the Vortex is:

Annie Whitehead – Trombone
Chloë Scott – Flute
Frank Williams – Tenor Sax
Dave Draper – Guitar
Nick Stephens – Bass
Josh Jones – Drums
+ Special Guests

Duduvudu is dedicated to the late Harry Beckett.

The material captures Dudu’s  joie de vivre and his attention  to detail. The shifting harmonic and metric canvas is sufficiently rich to satisfy the most stringent of home listeners. (Jazzwise)
