The Nels Cline 4 is the quartet extrapolation of Nels`duo work with guitarist Julian Lage.
Adding the rhythm section of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Tom Rainey, the Four will endeavor to probe the inner and outer reaches of the guitar-driven jazz quartet, playing music written by Nels as well as some gems by Jimmy Giuffre and Attila Zoller. Eschewing Nels`propensity for effects-laden sounds and looping in favor of unfettered tones, the Four will interpret and improvise in a conversational, relatively low-volume, and thoroughly modernistic manner.
